Our Newest Conference Speaker: Bebo Co-Founder Xochi Birch

Learn about our newest San Francisco Conference speaker, Xochi Birch, co-founder of Monkey Inferno and Bebo.

By Jessica Schimm (Assistant Editor, Women 2.0)

We are thrilled to announce that Xochi Birch is our newest speaker. She will join TechCrunch Reporter Josh Constine, Mattermark CEO and founder Danielle Morrill and ExitRound CEO and founder Jacob Mullins on a panel to discuss the tech bubble at our conference, February 13th and 14th.

Birch comes with a dynamic background. She has been an engineer, founder of multiple startups, had one of her companies acquired by AOL, then bought it back, launched a personal incubator and has started the private social club The Battery.

Birch and her husband Michael made headlines last year when they bought back Bebo- the social media company they founded-  at $1M, a fraction of the $850M they had sold it for years earlier in 2008. Xochi sat down with Women 2.0 to discuss their decision to buy back in July of last year. Learn more about her below.

Xochi Birch started developing consumer facing internet sites with her husband Michael Birch since 1999 while living in London. She moved back to California with her husband and two children in 2002. She continued to build a number of community sites with Michael, which included BirthdayAlarm.com, Ringo.com and most notably Bebo which was sold to AOL in 2008.

After selling her company in 2008 she started two new projects, Monkey Inferno and The Battery. Monkey Inferno (www.monkeyinferno.com) is a personal incubator in San Francisco. The incubator is launching multiple new innovative consumer internet and mobile ideas.

The Battery is a social club located in the historic Jackson Square neighborhood in San Francisco. The vision for the club is to create a culture where inspiration is embraced, diverse communities come together and egos are checked at the door.
