Shapeways Brings 3D Printing to Victoria’s Secret Winter Fashion Show

Find out how Shapeways is helping Victoria’s Secret bring intricate 3D-printed lingerie to life.

The day before Shapeways co-founder Marleen Vogelaar spoke at our recent Las Vegas conference, Victoria’s Secret model Lindsay Ellingson was modeling a snowflake-accented lingerie set made by the world’s leading 3D printing company… you guessed it, Shapeways.

Shapeways worked with Victoria’s Secret and Swarkovski to make the lingerie, which took five months to create for the Winter Fashion Show. The elaborate lingerie get-up was comprised of an bustier, headpiece and wings, all crafted to resemble snowflakes. The ensemble was designed by architect Bradley Rothenberg.

Victoria’s Secret is a new partnership for the 3D printing company, but it’s hardly the company’s first collaboration. As GigaOm reports, the “New York based 3D printing marketplace and service has already partnered with Neiman Marcus, Bow & Drape, Kim Ovitz, and Michael Schmidt. This, however, is their first partnership with Victoria’s Secret.”

Shapeways is planning on doubling the number of its 3D factories in New York by January 2014 according to GigaOm. With expansion like that, 3D printing is set to transform not only the fashion world, but to continue to penetrate more industries.

What’s the next sector to be upended by 3D printing?
