Jawbone Hires Mindy Mount as President

The former Microsoft exec joins the female-founded wearable tech startup to steer it through rapid expansion.

With Google Glass capturing headlines and Apple rumored to be at work on an iWatch, wearable tech is a hot topic recently. And one female-founded company in the sector is positioning itself to take advantage of the growing buzz.

San Francisco-based Jawbone announced it’s bringing former Microsoft VP Mindy Mount on board as President.

It’s not the only move the company has made recently. Besides already raising over $200 million in funding, Jawbone has been busy with acquisitions and has added well connected directors to the board, AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher reports. The new hire, she writes,

is part of what has been a major upgrading of its management and board. Recently, Jawbone added Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Rob Wiesenthal of Warner Music as directors.

Jawbone has also recently done a big acquisition — purchasing BodyMedia, a wearable health and fitness company, for $100 million. The move comes just a couple months after it bought data and digital-design companies Massive Health and Visere.

All this expansion requires tight organizational efforts and Mount has a lot of financial and operational experience, having held several key jobs at the software giant. She was most recently corporate VP and CFO at Microsoft’s Online Services Division, which includes Bing, MSN and Microsoft Advertising.

Not only is it great to see a female-founded startup growing so significantly, it’s even better to see the company hiring a female executive to head these efforts.
