Announcing Founder Hangouts – Applications Now Open

5 sessions, 10 weeks, 5 mentors, 10 emerging founders.

10 carefully selected founders who are at the start of their entrepreneurial journey are selected through a rolling application process. Every other week, an experienced founder shares their experiences and advice on a topic for 20 minutes followed by 1 hour and 10 minutes of open discussion and Q&A.

Join us to connect with other founders going through similar startup challenges while also learning from seasoned veterans of startup life. We provide a safe, discreet space for up and coming entrepreneurs to receive intimate mentoring sessions with a select group of successful entrepreneurs that currently have, or have exited profitable and/or funded, growing companies.

Who Should Apply?

  • You are the female founder of a technology startup (Consumer Web/Mobile, Enterprise, Clean Tech, Bio Tech, Hardware);
  • Your team is in place and you’re in the thick of launching your product;
  • You are looking for a forum to learn and expand your horizons as you build your company.

Mentors 

sukhinder singh cassidySukhinder Singh Cassidy (Founder & Chairman, JOYUS)

Sukhinder Singh Cassidy is Founder and Chairman of JOYUS. Prior to founding JOYUS in January 2011, she’s spent 18 years as a leading consumer internet and media executive at global and early stage companies including Google, Amazon, Polyvore, Yodlee and News Corporation. Most recently, she served as CEO and Chairman of the board at the leading social commerce site, Polyvore, and CEO-in-Residence with Accel Partners, a leading global consumer internet venture capital firm. From 2003 to 2009, she was a senior executive at Google; as President of Asia Pacific and Latin America, she was responsible for all of Google’s commercial operations in both regions built the company’s physical presence from inception to a multi-billion dollar business across 40 domains and 103 different countries throughout APAC and Latin America. She currently serves on the boards of TripAdvisor (TRIP) and Formspring, as an Advisor to Twitter, and on the Advisory Council for Princeton University’s Dept of Computer Science. rashmi sinhaRashmi Sinha (CEO & Co-Founder, SlideShare – acquired by LinkedIn)

Rashmi Sinha is a designer and entrepreneur. She co-founded SlideShare in 2006. SlideShare is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations. Slideshare was acquired by Linkedin in May 2012. In 2012, Rashmi was named as one of ten Fortune Magazine Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs. She also has been named the World’s Top 10 Women Influencers in Web 2.0 by Fast Company and is a frequent speaker at conferences such as Web 2.0 Expo and Future of Web Apps. Rashmi has a PhD in Cognitive Neuropsychology from Brown University and conducted research on search engines and recommender systems at UC Berkeley. selina tobaccowalaSelina Tobaccowala (Founder, Evite.com & SVP Product & Engineering, SurveyMonkey) 

Selina Tobaccowala joined SurveyMonkey in October 2009 and is currently responsible for the Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams. Selina and her team build and manage the world’s largest online survey platform that scales across 55 different languages, 29 currencies and handles over 2M survey responses a day. Previously Selina was Senior Vice President of Product and Technology at Ticketmaster’s Europe division, where she managed the 200-person Product, Technology and Operations team. Prior to that, Selina was Vice President of Online Product and Technology at Entertainment Publications, where she led the company’s online sales and technology initiatives. In 1997, Selina founded Evite.com, an online invitation service that lets users organize an offline event online, and which currently sends over three million invitations per month. As VP of Engineering for Evite.com, she led the company’s development and operations and played a key role in setting the strategic direction with the board of directors. elaine wherryElaine Wherry (Co-Founder & CXO, Meebo – acquired by Google) 

Elaine Wherry was Co-Founder and Chief Experience Officer (CXO) for Meebo, a consumer Internet company that enabled millions of users to chat, share, and connect with their online friends before being acquired by Google in 2012.

Wherry led the Web, Product Management, and User Experience teams and designed the look and feel of most of Meebo’s products. Wherry authored Meebo’s initial JavaScript framework in 2005 and was a driving force behind developments such as Meebo Messenger, Meebo Mobile, and the Meebo Bar.

Prior to starting Meebo, Wherry worked at Synaptics as a Human Factors Researcher and later became the Manager of Usability and Design. Wherry, a classically trained violinist, graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Symbolic Systems and a concentration in Human Computer Interaction. She is a recipient of the Founders Fund TechFellows Award in Engineering Leadership. She is a frequent speaker and her work has been featured in numerous publications including Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, and CBS.

Today she mentors aspiring entrepreneurs, fulfills an advisory role with several incubators, publishes Silicon Valley thoughts on her blog ewherry.com, and is taking a quick breath before diving into her next start-up journey.

007_Deena_Varshavskaya_WaneloDeena Varshavskaya (Founder & CEO, Wanelo)

Deena Varshavskaya is the founder and CEO of Wanelo (“wah-nee-lo,” from Want, Need, Love), an online community for all of the world’s shopping. Wanelo is democratizing and transforming the world’s commerce by reorganizing shopping around people.

Originally from Siberia, Deena launched her first web startup straight out of college, only to learn that she loved designing websites, but knew nothing about design. She then pursued user experience design working for a social network and later established her own design agency.

After realizing the need for a radically different shopping experience that empowers the individual, Deena launched Wanelo in late 2010. Today, Wanelo is an advertising-free shopping environment with hundreds of thousands of stores and is a growing movement of millions of people.

Applications open Thursday, May 16th, 2013 and close Tuesday, June 11th, 2013.

Pricing is $249 for all 5 sessions and is due in full before the Founder Hangouts begin.

Interested parties should click on the link below in order to submit a form application for the program. Applicants will be accepted into the program and notified on a rolling basis. All confirmed participants will be required to sign a Nondisclosure Agreement in order to ensure a safe space for participants to openly share their challenges.
