Big news came from Y Combinator this week. For the first time, teams can apply for the prestigious Palo Alto-based incubator program without a startup idea. The team, not the particular idea, is what power a startup’s success. The deadline to apply is March 28, 2012 for the June – August program. Y Combinator application here.

Another startup accelerator program, Boulder-based TechStars, is currently accepting applications for the Boulder class of startups through today (March 16). The TechStars program in New York announced a class of 14 startups, 6 of which are female founded. That’s almost half!

Fundings & Acquisitions

StyleSeat, co-founded by Melody McCloskey who is building “OpenTable for salons”, raised an additional $775k in funding from investors including Founders Fund, Ashton Kutcher and actress Sophia Bush.

Meanwhile, Kevin Rose and the Milk team were acquired by Google this week. We bookmarked entrepreneurial Milk engineer Amber Reyngoudt as a woman to watch – she previously co-founded SkullNinja.

Women’s Participation In Tech

Strata (October 23-25 in New York) opened their call for speakers – check out the suggested speaking topics here. Deadline to submit is April 23, 2012.

Here’s your chance to win a free ticket to Where 2.0 Conference in San Francisco April 2-4, 2012 – leave a comment here.
