4 Handy Tools For Working Remotely And Productively

By Sepideh Nasiri (Director of Sponsorships & Events, Women 2.0)
It wasn’t that long ago that being an employee meant coming in to the office at 9am and having in-person meetings and presentations all day. Not everyone is fit for this kind of role, maybe because their team is not all in one location, they live a long distance from the office, or perhaps they just prefer a job where they don’t have to put in much face time.

Whatever the case may be, there was a problem that needed to be solved – actually getting your work done without being at the office.

Luckily for us, there are now many solutions to this very problem. As an international organization with people located throughout the world, our team at Women 2.0 depends on a variety of tools that allow us to work both remotely and productively. Here are a few of my favorites for your enjoyment:

  1. Box.net allows you to upload all of your files to the “cloud” and share those files with anyone who may need access, whether a colleague, investor, or partner. This has made messy email attachment threads a thing of the past!
  2. Skype helps you communicate with people globally in one place at one time. It makes conference calls are a snap! And the Skype iPhone app has quickly become one of my favorite apps.
  3. Plancast helps you discover and share the events you may want to attend. Staying up to date with all of the networking events in Silicon Valley can be tough, and I use Plancast religiously to keep me on the ball.
  4. Hashable allows us busy remote workers to manage our relationships by helping us remember all of the people we meet every day. Remembering that your potential investor is allergic to seafood… check!

In addition to the above, there are many more tools available to help us all work remotely and stay productive. Use them to your advantage to harness the power and freedom of not requiring a face-to-face with everyone you work with.

Remote working is here to stay so take comfort in knowing that you are part of a growing trend that will continue to be more prevalent in the future.
