Women 2.0 today announced that the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, one of the world’s largest organizations devoted to entrepreneurship, has provided corporate sponsorship to support Women 2.0 initiatives to increase the number of technology companies founded by women. Kauffman’s sponsorship will enable Women 2.0 to expand its educational resources to the female entrepreneur community via a blog network of relevant content and the expansion of global networking events such as Founder Friday.

“Empowering women as technology founders has proven to be a strong tool for innovation and job creation,” said Shaherose Charania, CEO and co-founder, Women 2.0. “As the new dominant influencers of consumer and business-to-business spending, female entrepreneurs are a driving force of economic growth. With the support of the Kauffman Foundation, Women 2.0 will continue to provide resources for women that will strengthen a growing technology community.”

Founded in 2006, Women 2.0, a business network and emerging global media company, has made it a mission to inform, inspire and educate a new generation of females who are entrepreneurial and successful. To date, the organization has been a resource to tens of thousands burgeoning female founders by offering guidance, educational materials, networking and conferences to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Hosting more than 65 global events to date, Women 2.0 recently expanded the organization’s Founder Friday event to Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and other major markets this year. These events are targeted towards connecting burgeoning female entrepreneurs with established tech company founders and investors.

“The rate of startups is at 15-year high, however there isn’t a single resource or hub that provides resources to future female entrepreneurs to follow that path successfully,” said Lesa Mitchell, vice president of Advancing Innovation at the Kauffman Foundation. “Women 2.0 is fulfilling a distinct void by way of content, networking events and education, which are critical to supporting a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. We are happy to be a part of building this new engine for growth.”

Women 2.0 today also launched its official Blog Network for female founders to share the startup lessons learned and provide valuable insights about the process and experiences of starting a new venture.

The blog currently hosts more than 500 stories from female entrepreneurs ranging from Mary Lou Jepson, founder of One Laptop Per Child, to Freada Kapor, partner at Kapor Capital, offering advice regarding the startup process.

“Women 2.0 has entered its next phase of growth by extending its reach through online and social channels to engage the broader, global community of female entrepreneurs,” said Charania.

“Our new blog series will be a forum for conversation that will enable the promise of creating a business idea to become a reality.”
