As an entrepreneur it is easy to fall into the trap of workaholism, believing that an overabundance of hard work now will pay off in leisure time later. However, as admirable as this work ethic is, in reality it is much more likely to pay off in an unhealthy, unsustainable lifestyle.
Without a proper balance in your life between work and your mental and physical health, both may suffer. So throughout my career, I have picked up some tips to stay at the top of my game physically, as well as in my work:
- Keep to a strict sleep schedule. This will do wonders for your energy and concentration and help you maintain a sense of balance
- Take time for yourself. This is crucial for both your health and your business. Otherwise you may become overwhelmed and crash.
- Maintain a healthy diet. Yes, even when you’re in a rush. This will make you feel better and raise your productivity significantly
- Join a gym and take some classes. Enlisting support is a great way to stay motivated and healthy. That’s why I founded CEO Ladies Run, a running group for female business owners, but you can accomplish this simply by joining some classes at your local gym.
For driven entrepreneurs it can be difficult not to always prioritize work. However, healthy living is necessary to maintain overall well being, and will reflect itself in your drive and motivation. With balanced habits come the mental and physical resources to maintain your business, so that every aspect of your life improves symbiotically.
