What are your investment deal-breakers?
For me, it’s been case by case—and the deal-breakers have ranged from not being familiar with an industry, not believing in the company, and not being impressed with the entrepreneur.
What types of companies do you look to invest in?
I’m open to companies/industries provided they are co-founded or co-owned by a woman.
What do you look for in an entrepreneur/founding team?
That they are “all in” and have a vision for greater impact than what their current product/business can do today.
How has your background played a role in your angel investing?
I think indirectly I’ve learned to develop a gut feel for a person and a situation. The non-numbers are the hardest to measure. It’s important to trust yourself when you don’t have all the facts and have to make assumptions for a calculated risk/reward.
One piece of advice to an angel-in-training?
To get to know other angel investors and be a part of the community.
One piece of advice to an entrepreneur looking for capital?
Always be honest and realistic to yourself and your (potential) investors.
What does impact investing mean to you?
Business with a measurable social influence.
How would you define a for-profit social venture?
Financially sustainable, and with every transaction someone, some family, or some community is being positively impacted.
Favorite quotation?
The most effective way to do it, is to do it. — Amelia Earhart
Random fact?
I did not miss a single day of high school.
