Top 10 Technovation Challenge World Pitch Teams Announced, Will Pitch Next Week at Twitter HQ in SF

High school girls have prototyped game-changing mobile apps for the Technovation Challenge. The best teams will be flying in from all over the world – New York, Texas, Nigeria, Brazil and England – to compete on May 2 at the World Pitch 2013 event in San Francisco.

Over 600 girls from around the world competed in the Technovation Challenge this year – they built mobile apps to solve problems in their local communities around the world.

On May 2, the top 10 regional finalists teams will pitch their ideas to venture capitalist judges at Technovation World Pitch 2013, held at Twitter’s headquarters on the evening of May 2 in San Francisco. Judges for the pitch event are Ruchi Sanghvi (Vice President of Operations, Dropbox), Maggie Johnson (Director of Education, Google) and Freada Kapor Klein (Partner, Kapor Capital).

The winning team from the Technovation World Pitch 2013 will receive $10,000 in funding to take their app to market. Check out the impressive top 10 finalist teams that will be presenting!

 

The Pitch: Created alongside Nottinghamshire Police, Who2Call by Tek5 will help you make the right choice at the right time when you need to call the police in the UK. Saving Lives. Saving Money. Saving Resources. Saving Time.
The School: New College (Nottingham, England)

The Pitch: NeighborHoot by Wildcat Watchers is a community watch application that connects users via a public network and informs members on how to share and respond to situations that arise in their neighborhood. Users can immediately post warnings through the Forum, send GPS locations to authorities, and learn fun safety tips through the Adventure Game.
The School: Dougherty Valley (San Ramon, California)

The Pitch: NaviCar by TeamRoundofAPPlause helps you organize hectic schedules and arrange carpools with people who live close to you. The app includes features such as a calendar, schedule reminder, message planning, and even route planning.
The School: Thomas Jefferson High School (Arlington, Virginia)

The Pitch: Solidárie by Solidárias is a mobile application designed for people who want to find, connect and share volunteer experiences. Users can post pictures and share volunteer experiences, creating a bond between volunteers and institutions and encouraging users to volunteer more.
The School: Colégio Universitas (Santos, Brazil)

The Pitch: Do-gooder by IdeaFuse is an app to help users find opportunities for volunteer work. These “do-gooders” will have the ability to view and track their cumulative community service hours, interact with friends, and earn virtual badges for their involvement.
The School: Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School (Marlborough, Massachusetts)

The Pitch: CommUnity by Innogators is an easy way for users to find and track volunteer opportunities in their community that match their unique interests. This app uses a custom search tool to find opportunities, keeps records of volunteer hours, and shares these records with the user’s school.
The School: Castilleja (Mountain View, California)

The Pitch:TrafficApp by Princeton Girls in IT is designed to track traffic offenders within the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The offender’s details are filled in on an e-form, which is submitted to a central database table visible to all users of the app when the submit button is clicked.
The School: Princeton College (Lagos, Nigeria)

The Pitch: Pet Stop by GeekChic is an app that enables the user to efficiently access pet-relevant information “on-the-go.” It allows users to post about pets they have lost, report found pets, locate veterinarians, find adoptable pets, and more.
The School: Homestead High (Cupertino, California)

The Pitch: Early Bird by ClementsTechGirls is an alarm clock created for elementary students which forces the user to complete an educational game before the sound will turn off. Building off the phrase, “Early bird gets the worm,” this app uses worms as currency, with which users can purchase items, including snoozes and virtual pet Birds.
The School: Clements High School (Sugar Land, Texas)

The Pitch: Arrive by Nightingale is a school attendance system which uses geolocation to track students within 60 ft of school, and then enables them to scan a QR code as they come into the building. Administrators can view student attendance by class and last name, and parents can opt-in to receive a text message when their child arrives at school.
