PITCH NYC 2012 scholarships were awarded by Kapor Capital.

With the goal of investing in seed stage information technology companies to generate economic value and positive social impact, Oakland-based investment fund Kapor Capital invests in human capital, contributing scholarships for women of color to attend the upcoming PITCH NYC Conference & Competition on November 14 in New York City.

Here are a few of the scholarship award winners, as selected by Kapor Capital:

Christine de la Garza (Founder & Designer, delaCav)
Designer Christine de la Garza is an entrepreneur and integrated digital strategist freelancing at Studio Lekker. She is the founder and owner of delaCav handcrafted bootwear with a new venture coming soon – stay tuned! Follow her on Twitter at @christinedlg.

Daria Burke (Founder & CEO, Black MBA Women)
Building a strong network of Black/African-American women and empowering the next generation of young black women, Daria Burke launched Black MBA Women to create opportunities for women in business. Follow her on Twitter at @blackmbawomen.

Nerissa Holder Hall (Founder, CleverHive)
After working at a leading developer of lifestyle and children’s apps funded by KPCB and leading the company’s efforts to build a series of game-based learning applications for the prestigious, Nerissa Holder Hall is currently building the first reality-based game for girls called CleverHive.

Ope Bukola (Founder, CourseSky & Zora Magazine)
Education entrepreneur Ope Bukola is building CourseSky, an open education company that creates free interactive college-prep courses online. She also launched Zora Magazine, a smart voice for black women in college and beyond. Follow her on Twitter at @ope_bukola.

PITCH NYC is a full day of speakers and panels sharing case studies, best practices and stories of successful business disruption in today’s new entrepreneur economy. Attendees will learn from talks by successful women executives and founders of startups and tech companies, and network with 800+ men and women in tech. There will also be mentoring available at lunch.

Brian Dixon, a Kapor Capital associate, will also be at PITCH NYC Conference to meet and talk to anyone who wants to connect.

Thanks to Kapor Capital for taking the initiative to support women in tech, and to the Mitch Kapor Foundation for supporting organizations like Women 2.0 to drive social change in communities of color en route to equality by providing financial resources for social change.
