By Angie Chang (Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Women 2.0)

Today is Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of women in STEM who are role models. Coincidentally, we’re one month away from Women 2.0’s first PITCH Conference in New York featuring a full day of successful women entrepreneurs as speakers. Meet Sandy Jen, co-founder at Meebo. She grew the engineering team at Meebo – from herself as the sole back-end engineer in 2005, to an engineering team of over a hundred by the time Meebo was acquired by Google in June 2012.

At PITCH Conference, Sandy will be speaking alongside successful women entrepreneurs and executives who started companies including Match.com, Cisco, Oxygen Network, Urban Decay and TRUSTe.

About Meebo’s Sandy Jen:

  • Sandy is the engineering talent behind Meebo – Check out her bio on Meebo’s about page for Sandy (pictured, right). More than just the “server chick”, she’s actually the technical co-founder behind Meebo. When Google acquired Meebo for a reported $100 million earlier this year, her title was “co-founder and Chief Technology Officer”.
  • Sandy is funny In the beginning days of Meebo, Sandy and her co-founder forgot to tell their third co-founder for two weeks that they had quit their day jobs – because they were working so hard on the site.
  •

Sandy recalls, “Even today, six years later after we launched, I’m sometimes like, ‘Wow. Holy crap. I’m an entrepreneur.’ Or, ‘Oh my God. I’m the CTO.’ Because when you take a step back, it’s like, ‘Wow. I was able to take a risk.’ Or, ‘I was able to put myself out there more than I would have before, and it really paid off.” (as told to NCWIT).

  • Sandy’s honest advice for entrepreneurs – “It’s the same advice I’d give entrepreneurs at any time — stop wasting time and give it a go. No one’s going to tell you how to do it, you have to figure it out for yourself. Instead of drafting business plans, going to entrepreneurial conferences and worrying about if you need funding or not, focus on what’s important and that’s getting your product (or venture, or whatever) out the door to your users. It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but you’ll have so much fun it’ll blow your mind.” (as told to Mashable)
