Social Babysitting Marketplace UrbanSitter Raises $6 Million

Congrats to UrbanSitter on raising Series A for the social babysitting marketplace founded by four parents in San Francisco.
By Angie Chang (Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Women 2.0)

Social babysitting marketplace UrbanSitter co-founders include Andrea Barrett (Product), Lynn Perkins (CEO, both pictured), Hadar Wissotzky (CTO) and Daisy Downs (Operations). The $6 million Series A round was raised from Canaan Partners, First Round Capital, Menlo Ventures and Rustic Canyon Partners.

Founded by four busy parents, UrbanSitter is an online resource where parents find and book babysitters recommended by people they know – recommendations from parents in your social circles!

CEO Lynn Perkins drew parallels between UrbanSitter and Airbnb, arguing that existing babysitter-booking websites like Care.com (founded by Boston-based CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo with $109 million in venture capital raised to date) and Sittercity (founded by Chicago-based Genevieve Thiers with $30.6 million in venture capital raised to date) are Web 1.0 and that there’s room for improvement with a more Web 2.0 or “social” approach to solving the babysitting problem.

Congrats to the UrbanSitter team on the Series A funding and we look forward to watching the babysitting marketplace evolve.
