Building Kits For Kids, Green Kid Crafts Shares Mother’s Love For Environmental Ethics With Children – Around The Country

Like so many children’s products, Green Kid Crafts is a mother’s invention, born out of need.
By Penny Bauder (Founder, Green Kid Crafts)

While I actually have a science background, and no business schooling whatsoever (although I am enrolled in The Founder Institute Fall 2012 Session and was just awarded the Female Founder Fellowship – yay!), I’ve found that that the entrepreneur lifestyle is an exact match for my personality.

I’ve discovered that I am a visionary thinker and thrive in ambiguity. While I am extremely competitive, I am also a keen observer and excel at modeling successful companies.

I started Green Kid Crafts as sort of a hobby and a way to stay at home with my children while continuing to work and participate in the world. But I quickly discovered that through Green Kid Crafts, I was able to marry my deep environmental ethics with creativity and share this experience with not only my kids, but also with kids around the country. This I find deeply fulfilling.

Green Kid Crafts has a lot to celebrate recently! We have a large subscriber base that is growing rapidly. Since January, we’ve been growing at a monthly rate of 60%. We have an extremely active social media following and just reached the 1M mark on Pinterest! We have received a lot of buzz in the blogging world and have 100+ great online reviews under our belt. We also just won Green America’s People and Planet Award. I hope to continue to build brand awareness and rapidly increase market share to become the market leader in subscription-based services for kids.

I plan to further develop and refine our product lines and add staff capacity by the end of the year and am considering partnering with venture capitalists.

Like so many children’s products, Green Kid Crafts is a mother’s invention, born out of need. I’m a busy mom, but nothing is more precious to me than spending quality time interacting with my two children. Like many other parents, I want to spend my limited time connecting with them, not scrambling for ideas and shopping for things to do with them. I wanted to create something that would make life easier for parents like me while also setting the tone and expectation for how my children choose to live in the world. And this is where Green Kid Crafts comes in!

Subscribers to Green Kid Crafts receive monthly deliveries of three fun, eco friendly arts, crafts, and science activities that spark creativity and cultivate respect and love for the environment. The activities are connected by a different theme each month and cover various developmental areas through art, science, and imaginative and active play. In keeping with the values of our purpose-driven company, all materials are eco friendly and non-toxic.

Our projects are designed and tested by a community of awesome volunteer parent “experts”. This community of parents is at the heart of Green Kid Crafts and includes creative parents, grandparents and specialists to ensure that we are delivering developmentally appropriate and inspiring activities while staying

Green Kid Crafts kids subscription service is bringing children closer to their environment through fun and creative activities and I hope that, as we grow, we will show people of all ages that taking care of the environment and each other should be a factor in everything they do.
