Ashoka Changemakers And Intel Tweet-A-Thon, #GirlTech Finalists Announced October 11

Empowering women with tech tools to succeed and innovate.
By Marzena Zukowska (Community Mobilizer, Ashoka Changemakers)

Investing in women is smart. Investing in women via technology is even smarter. Women offer a type of “multiplier effect” as they tend to pour more money into their communities (Forbes).

With 87% of the world covered by mobile technology (MRMW), putting two and two together is an obvious next step; empowering women with tech tools to succeed and innovate.

In this light, Intel Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers are teaming up for a Twitter-based chat on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 3pm to 4:30pm EST to announce the finalists of the She Will Innovate (#GirlTech) competition and discuss the world’s most innovative solutions enriching the lives of girls and women. The event will be part of the 12-hour “International Day of the Girl” tweet-a-thon organized by Intel and 10×10.

We’ll be sharing ideas, providing guidance, learning about activities around the globe, and inspiring change all day long.

Joining the conversation is easy. Just log-in to Twitter at 3pm EST on Thursday, October 11. Then:

  • Use the #SocEntChat and #IDG2012 hashtags to make your comments visible in the stream. Use search.twitter.com or an application like TweetDeck to follow the hashtags and keep up with the conversation.
  • Introduce yourself and take a minute to get to know the other chatters when you join.
  • Send your questions to @changemakers without the hashtag (to keep them out of the stream) so they can be considered for this conversation.
  • Please remember to use the #SocEntChat hashtag, stay on topic, be respectful, and have fun!

We will feature insights from our special guests:

  • Shelly Esque, VP of Corp Affairs Group, Intel and President of the Intel Foundation @intelinvolved
  • Barbara McAllister, Director of Global Strategic Initiatives, Intel Foundation @bhmcalli
  • Suzanne Fallender, Director of CSR Strategy and Communications, Intel @sfallender
  • Helene Gayle, President and CEO, CARE @care
  • Emily Leys, Global Director for Girls’ Education, Room to Read @roomtoread
  • Ruth Amos CEO of StairSteady @StairSteady

So get excited, make new connections, and stay involved with the “Day of the Girl” hashtag #IDG2012.
