Female Founders To Watch: Women Entrepreneurs In Boston

Founder Friday launches in Boston this September 28!

We are excited to announce that Women 2.0 will be launching Founder Friday Boston on September 28 to celebrate women entrepreneurs innovating in the greater Boston area.

Two of the five winners of the L’Oréal Women in Digital awardees are based in Boston- serial entrepreneur Bettina Hein of Pixability and first-time entrepreneur Sarah McIlroy of FashionPlaytes.

Here are 7 accomplished female founders running disruptive tech startups in Boston:

Beth Marcus (Founder & CEO, Playrific)
Before launching her current venture Playrific, Beth Marcus has founded and served as CEO for several startups – most notably the VC-backed EXOS, which was acquired by Microsoft in 1996. She also served as CTO at Zeemote. Follow her on Twitter at @startupdoc.

Bettina Hein (Founder & CEO, Pixability)
Serial entrepreneur Bettina Hein founded video marketing tool Pixability and women’s networking organization She-e-o’s. Prior to Pixability, she co-founded SVOX AG and led the speech software company to profitability and acquisition. Follow her on Twitter at @pixability.

Jennifer Lum (Co-Founder, Adelphic Mobile)
Mobile entrepreneur Jennifer Lum is co-founder of Adelphic Mobile, was a core team member of Quattro Wireless (acquired by Apple) and m-Qube (acquired by VeriSign). She co-founded Apricot Capital and is also an angel investor. Follow her on Twitter at @jenniferlum.

Jules Pieri (Founder & CEO, Daily Grommet)
Industrial designer and Harvard MBA Jules Pieri started her third startup, Daily Grommet, to launch undiscovered consumer products and help them succeed. She is currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at Harvard Business School this year. Follow her at @julespieri.

Laura Fitton (Founder & CEO, Oneforty)
Co-author of Twitter for Dummies” Laura Fitton started social business management platform Oneforty, which was acquired by Internet marketing and web analytics company HubSpot. The acquisition was announced in a series of tweets. Follow her on Twitter at @pistachio.

Sarah McIlroy (Founder & CEO, FashionPlaytes)
With senior experience in retail and gaming companies, Sarah McIlroy launched FashionPlaytes, a next generation commerce platform enabling girls to design their own clothes and purchase them. Follow her on Twitter at @smcilroy1.

Sheila Lirio Marcelo (Founder & CEO, Care.com)
PITCH 2012 speaker Sheila Lirio Marcelo launched Care.com to help families find high-quality caregivers. The mother of two boys has raised $101 million in venture funding for Care.com to date. Follow her on Twitter at @smarcelo.
