Procopio To Host Startup Boot Camp On June 13 In Palo Alto

Procopio’s Emerging Growth and Tech practice group is hosting an all day Startup Boot camp on June 13.

By Roger Rappoport (Founder, StartUp Info & Partner, Procopio)

Friday, May 4 2012 was a huge day for the female tech community in America’s Finest City. Women 2.0 officially launched in San Diego, as a result of the hard work and dedication of a number of people, including Sepideh Nasiri and the team at Women 2.0, hosts Mel Gordon (co-founder and CEO of Tap Hunter) and Adriana Herrera (founder and CEO of Fashioning Change), and Valerie Sanderson, Manager of Corporate Programs and Events at Procopio, and her staff.

Picture a perfect setting – the large conference room on the 22nd floor of Procopio’s downtown San Diego offices, which leads onto the outdoor garden, overlooking the San Diego Bay and the Coronado Bridge, with a perfect sunset in the making. The conference room (which holds 120+ people) and garden was packed with some of San Diego’s most promising female tech entrepreneurs, and as I moved around, the passion and excitement of similarly situated, like-minded females getting together for the first time was quite astonishing and something hard to articulate. It brought back memories and the emotions of the Women 2.0 PITCH 2012 Conference, where I first experienced the incredible power and emotion of female entrepreneurs, engrossed in sharing their startup creations, experiences, resources, hopes, dreams and hardships.

Mel and Adriana officially kicked off the first Founder’s Friday, describing their experiences as female tech entrepreneurs, and the struggles and sacrifices they had made, and continue to make, in building and creating their dreams. As I looked around the room, I could tell that they were striking a chord with many in the room, and after all of the speeches were done, I can’t tell you how many women that I spoke to echoed that same sentiment, and what a lonely road entrepreneurship can be, particularly for solo founders.

An email I received from a client the day after the event summed up the general consensus of the women attending the launch:

“Roger, thank you for a fabulous evening with Women 2.0! The women there were outstanding, everything was just perfect! It was wonderful to be with people who all understood what it really takes to build a startup. Many sacrifices are made in your life, as it is an exhausting and often very lonely process; it is also one of the most exhilarating experiences of a lifetime when you are building something that will help so many. Women 2.0 provides the perfect solution for the acceleration of female founder startups and I just wanted to thank you again for bringing this group together at Procopio!”

I think that the email says more than I could ever convey in this posting. Again, on behalf of Procopio, we are proud to support, and be associated with, Women 2.0 in Silicon Valley and San Diego, and are truly grateful to the organization and the tremendous team of volunteers that are committed to building what is sure to soon be a global community of like minded tech entrepreneurs. Procopio is sponsoring the Silicon Valley Founder Friday June 1, 2012 (and San Diego), so see you all there!

A number of 2.0’ers have already attended our workshops in Palo Alto, which are geared to startup entrepreneurs, and Procopio’s Emerging Growth and Tech practice group is hosting an all day Startup Boot Camp on June 13, 2012, from 7:30am to 5:30pm. It’s going to be a stellar event for startup entrepreneurs, covering corporate, IP, employment, tax, executive comp, directors, advisors and a whole lot more.

In addition, we have a fantastic lunch panel, with representatives from Andreessen Horowitz, the Sand Hill Angels and a couple of successful entrepreneurs that will discuss topics like: How do you know when its time to pivot? How do you know its time to “fail early” rather than pivot? Do serial entrepreneurs have a better chance of success than first timers? What are some of the things that investors wish entrepreneurs knew? What are the key factors that determine a startup’s success? Why do startups most often fail—and so much more.

We also have the author of Nail it Then Scale it discussing his methodology for entrepreneurial success. As if that wasn’t enough (!!), we have Johnny Chan from eBoost, talking about scaling issues, in a presentation entitled “Business Model Scalability: How to achieve breakneck growth with intelligent customer acquisition strategies.” Hope to see a bunch of 2.0’ers at the event.

Because Procopio is committed to all that Women 2.0 stands for and what it hopes to achieve, we have arranged to have a portion of the registration fees paid by 2.0’ers for the Startup Boot Camp go back to the organization (so make sure you put in the code “W2.0” code when you register).
