Win A Free Ticket To Lean Startup Machine Los Angeles (June 15-17)

A hands-on experience where you learn Customer Development and Lean Startup principles.

By Edlin Choi (Workshop Coordinator, Lean Startup Machine)

Test your hypothesis about your next big idea. Validate your riskiest assumptions. Develop customers before you even have a product. Build, measure, learn. This is Lean Startup Machine. In the intensive educational workshop that is Lean Startup Machine, attendees will learn how to build what customers want. This June 15-17, you can learn and do more in three days than most do in six months.

Tell us why you want to attend Lean Startup Machine LA in the comments below by MIDNIGHT on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 and the best answer will receive a free pass!

While it is an educational workshop, Lean Startup Machine is structured as a competition. But your success doesn’t hinge on the idea, rather it’s what teams learn about their customers that ultimately decides the winner.

A platform for group social activism eventually became the Groupon that we all know today. A gaming project turned into one of the biggest photo sharing sites on the web called Flickr. An endeavor to connect the physical and digital worlds through QR codes sprouted Turntable.fm, a service that connects people in a real-time music listening experience. Your progress in a similar kind of discovery and evolution is what’s important. No matter where you start, it just matters that you do start. You’ll learn the rest as you go.

Throughout the three days, you will:

  • Ideate a startup or work on the one you have now
  • Practice customer discovery
  • Research your target market
  • Practice customer development
  • Test your assumptions in iterations
  • Understand your business model
  • Iterate and pivot (when necessary)
  • Build something you can launch
  • Present your validated learnings
  • Build minimum viable products (iterative experiments or “hacks”) that will save you tens of thousands of dollars in development costs, and more importantly, time

Got an idea of your own? Great.

You’ll get a chance to deliver your elevator pitch at the kickoff. After voting, if your idea gets selected you will be able to form a team and start working. We strongly encourage everyone who comes to LSM to start with a brand new concept.

Planning to work on an existing project?

Bring at least one co-founder with you to the event. If you have existing co-founders and none of them attend, you’ll have to work on a new startup idea. But don’t worry, you’ll still learn valuable skills that you can apply to your own business.

Don’t show up looking for a technical co-founder… that’s not the goal of this experience.

No co-founders? No problem.

You’ll meet many talented and smart people and have the opportunity to hear their new startup ideas. Whatever idea you work on, you will learn many valuable skills that you can later apply to your own business.

Lean Startup Machine is NOT a hackathon.

It’s a hands-on experience where you learn Customer Development and Lean Startup principles with the guidance of some excellent mentors. This experience will take you beyond just the three days and shape the future of how you build products.
