Friday Roundup: For The Love Or The Money?

By Angie Chang (Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Women 2.0)
This week, we learned that social networking site Pinterest reached record-breaking pageviews in an ungodly amount of time. Almost simultaneously, we heard that Pinterest has been generating revenue – a feat achieved by few early-stage startups.

Alicia Navarro‘s venture-funded startup Skimlinks powers the monetization of Pinterest’s pins through affiliate marketing.

Blogger Penelope Trunk comments on Sheryl Sandberg and brings up Jeff Atwood, founder of Stack Overflow:

“This week Jeff Atwood wrote in TechCrunch that he’s leaving his startup because it’s impossible to see his kids if he stays. And I don’t see anyone complaining about his declaration.

The TechCrunch headline? “Jeff Atwood Bids Adieu To Stack Exchange, For The Best Reason Ever” – he wants to watch his kids grow up, like any parent would.

Men are learning life lessons from Steve Jobs, and this week, seem to be taking a page from Jeff Atwood and ruminating on work life balance. 37 Signals mused about the startup culture – “all or something”?

For women who want to lean into their careers and aim to change the ratio in boardrooms, Care.com CEO Sheila Marcelo invites women to take the seat next to her, offering women advice for career advancement and inviting them to meet her at the Women 2.0 PITCH Conference next week where she will be speaking.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. TechCrunch notes Instagram founder’s girlfriend learned to code “for Valentine’s Day” and builds Lovestagram (we also noted their choice of URL).

We at Women 2.0 hope to inspire, educate and connect 800+ on Valentine’s Day – join us for the PITCH Conference at the Computer History Museum! Speed mentoring will also be going on at PITCH – Have Valentine’s Day lunch with successful executives and investors!

Get your ticket for the PITCH Conference on February 14 now! We are sold out of exhibit hall passes, bootstrapper’s discount tickets and volunteer spots. It’s going to be one packed Computer History Museum on Valentine’s Day – join us!
