Women Entrepreneurs in India: Apply to Quest (ABI-GHC)

Women Entrepreneur Quest, presented by the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, is designed to promote and showcase early-stage technology ventures founded or led by women entrepreneurs in all technologies.

We are looking for talented technical women in the founding or leadership team of early stage startups who have applied technology in innovative ways to solve meaningful business problems. If you are an early stage startup and have at least one woman on your founding or leadership team, apply here thru October 31, 2011.

About GHC-India 2011

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing – India (December 14-16, 2011) is a program of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology to increase the recruitment, retention, and advancement of Indian technical women. This is modeled after the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing in the United States and tailored by Indian technical women for the Indian technology culture, to bring the research and career interests of women in computing in India to the forefront.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Women in the founding / leadership team of a Private Independent Entity
  • Business needs to have a technology component preferably in various domains like Internet, Mobile, Healthcare, Clean Tech etc.
  • Must be an Indian operating and registered entity –- either a proprietary firm, Partnership firm, LLP or Pvt Ltd in business for less than 3 years as of December 15, 2011.

Process

Our selection committee will filter the top eight startups from all the business plans we receive. These will be evaluated on several criteria including Customer Need being addressed, Competitive Business Models and Effective & Innovative use of technology.

The eight finalists will be mentored closely by Saarthi, to shape their pitches for the final Showcase & Award Presentation event. The final pitches will be made at the GHC-India conference in Bangalore in front of a distinguished judge panel comprising of a mix of VCs, entrepreneurs and mentors.

About the guest blogger: Sapna Chandiramani is a Consulting Director at the Anita Borg Institute, and an entrepreneur. Her responsibilities at ABI include Business Development for Grace Hopper Celebration India, as well as Entrepreneurship programs. She recently founded BizHobNob.com, a Business Referral Networking Platform that enables business owners to Leverage, Engage and Expand their existing networks, with the goal of increasing customer base and revenue. Prior to starting BizHobNob, she spent 12 years in the software industry with multinationals like Oracle and Yahoo! across the US and India in senior management positions. Her expertise includes scalability, web scale ranking, detection algorithms and caching technologies with patents in the same. She holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Economics from the University of Rochester, New York. She sees tremendous opportunity with the changing needs of the Indian consumer, and hopes to generate value that would meet at least some of them.
